Divyayan is a project of Ramkrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi, which was set-up way back in 1969 for imparting training to village youths, particularly tribals, in various vocations like scientific agriculture, dairy, poultry, bee-keeping, horticulture, farm machinery, carpentry, welding, electrician, pump repairing etc.

In early sixties, when the adjoining districts of Ranchi were in the grip ofsevere drought, Ramkrishna Mission Ashrama, Ranchi organized distress-relief operations. In the course of carrying relief-work, it was strongly felt that unless the poor and illiterate farmers are trained in need-based agricultural technology supported by group action, such relief work will be only a temporary measure and they would again be victim of such adverse situations. A long term vision was, therefore, required to seek long term solutions. This became the genesis for establishment of Divyayan, meaning ‘The Divine Way’. Divyayan was started as a free residential institute for rural youth to get training (a) in agriculture by adopting new methods of scientific research; and (b) in allied subjects which could be adopted alongwith agriculture as vocations, This way a model of integrated rural development started taking shape and it was subsquently recognized as ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’, (in short ‘KVK’).

With the inception of Divyayan the farmers and rural youth were greatly benefited due to ‘hands on training’ provided to them in agriculture and allied vocations. The model developed by Divyayan was appreciated all over India and it emerged as ‘Krishi Vigyan Kendra’, a Pioneer Project of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) in the year 1977. Later on Krishi Vigyan Kendra were established in each District all over India. The unique services having been provided by Divyayan, following the teachings of Swami Vivekanand, have verily made it a ‘Temple of Worship of God in Man’. As a mark of appreciation, it had been rewarded as the Best KVK of the country in 1997-98 (amongst nearly 540 KVKs spread over in all parts of the country) and as Best KVK in Zone IV in 2015-16. It has again received Best KVK Award for
the year 2016-17 among 650 KVKs of the country.
