The increase in agricultural production directly depends on seed. Seeds of appropriate characteristics are required to meet the demand of diverse agro-climatic conditions and intensive cropping system. The basic concept behind this programme is to develop a system which will ensure the timely supply of quality seeds to farmers at reasonable rates.

Indian Agriculture has achieved enormous mile stones in the past years as an independent nation. It has progressed from a situation of food shortages and imports to one of surpluses and exports. Having food sufficiency, the aim now is to achieve food and nutritional security at the household level.

Before lunching the project it was strongly felt that the farmers of our target area are having very less landholding capacity. So usage of low quality seed can not give food security to them round the year. To increase the agricultural production in same land holding capacity, good quality seeds are utmost required. For good quality seed they had to depend on external sources which is occasionally of sub-standard quality.

Before lunching the programme a base survey based on a questionnaire was carried out in adopted villages to estimate the seed requirement of the farmers for the three cropping seasons Kharif, Rabi and summer. This survey helped firstly in learning about the crops grown area and secondly to confine the training course to those very crops. A wide publicity was carried out about the training. Tribal progressive youths are selected for training that include theoretical lectures, interactive demonstration and visit to different institute was also carried out.
