Construction of Low Cost Toilets in Tirlakocha under “Ramakrishna Mission Model Clean Village” (निर्मल ग्राम) |
|
Tirlakocha & Dhurleta are the villages situated besides each other and belong to Angara block. The villagers were facing the problem of unhygienic living conditions, dirty drains, garbage & dirty water scattered in the village and lack of safe drinking water. Fortunately, the village was having connection with Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi. There were some extrainees in the village, who were invited in the extrainees Sammelan held in Sursu to discuss their problems on 11-12-2009. They demanded that they will be grateful if construction of toilets and other sanitary conditions be made available to the village.
It was also discussed in detail with the village representatives who attended monthly meeting of the representatives of VSS. We agreed to solve their problems and helping them in creating a hygienic atmosphere by constructing toilets, providing safe drinking water and clean surroundings in the villages. The Secretary Swamiji along with his team went to the village and motivated the villagers for this work, provided them Knowledge and information about its construction. As a result, villagers actively participated in the programme; women’s participation in the programme was also appreciable. They worked themselves in digging pits, helping in transportation of materials for toilet constructions. By the combined efforts of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama and villagers 28 ‘D’ model toilets were successfully constructed in the village.
Villagers are using these toilets and are happy for achieving their first Step towards making their village a Model clean Village (निर्मल ग्राम). As a 2nd Step of the programme site of hand pump installation is selected and it was planned to complete the boring and pipe work in April 2010, but the village being in an interior hill it is difficult to take boring machine to that place. We are trying to do it manually. Besides Toilet construction and hand pump installation, following points are being planned to be achieved very soon. (1) Use of rural filters - for safe drinking water. (2) Use of Soakage pit- for disposal of waste water. (3) Compost pit construction and use- for disposal and re use of garbage.
